Image
Hello everyone. It's been much longer than I expected since my last post! Here the days have been getting warmer, and spring is in full swing. Which is perfect for the setting of my novel! I hope you will Allow Me to Tell You about my new book [I couldn't resist the pun 😊😂].  I can't wait for you to discover it for yourselves! Book Description When Fitzwilliam Darcy makes a complete mess of his proposal at Rosings Park by writing a letter, there is more at stake than his hurt pride. The letter starts off a chain of events that have an immediate impact on the people around him, including Elizabeth. And adding insult to injury, Elizabeth is now threatened with ruin.   But Elizabeth will not be intimidated so easily. She insists Mr. Darcy is the last man in the world she would want to marry, and nothing will change her mind. To rescue her from an impossible situation, Colonel Fitzwilliam steps in, and asks for her hand in marriage. Will it be an offer she cannot refus...

Dangerous Magic: A Pride and Prejudice Fantasy Variation

Image
I've been wanting to write a novel about mages for a long time. I've had this image in my mind of Mr. Darcy as a great mage, and it wouldn't let go. So with all that's been happening this past year, it seemed like a perfect time to let my give my imagination full rein and live in a magical world for a while.  The result was  Dangerous Magic . I've loved every minute of writing it, even though combining Regency with fantasy presented some unexpected challenges.  The novel will be out on March 15th, and is available for  pre-order from Amazon.  Blurb A sparkling tale of Regency England, a forced marriage, and two mages who must work together to save the Kingdom. Elizabeth Bennet is stunned when the Royal Mages come to her peaceful country home of Longbourn to take her away. She is even more bewildered when she is commanded to marry a powerful mage by the name of Fitzwilliam Darcy. She has always dreamed of marrying for love, and an arranged marriage with an arroga...

Image
Alright everybody. Here's my new cover. What do you think? Designed by the talented JD Dixon White Soup Press What kind of impression do you get from the cover? Thank you for following me here to my blog! Please remember to sign up to receive news, updates and posts. Now, exclusively here on  My Steampunk Darcy Realm , I'm posting the first teaser extract from the novel.   Excerpt Chapter 1 Alright, Mr. Hoity-Toity. This had better be good. I’m risking skin and bone to get here. The door opened and she strode into—. Whatever it was, it wasn’t an office. It was an emporium, a museum and the Great Exhibition of 1851, complete with Victorian gents and ladies who had the glazed look of trophy animals. Except that the Victorians were standing around instead of hanging on the wall. “Are these actual people? Did you have them stuffed and embalmed?” she asked, by way of greeting, “Or are they wax figures, like Madame Tussauds?” In the gloomy gas lamp-lit interior, she...

Pride And Prejudice: 200 years later

Image
Who would have thought it? On that momentous day when Jane Austen received her published copy of P&P, she had no inkling that she was going to be one of the best known authors in the English language, ranked along with Shakespeare as an essential classic. On January 27th, JA received her own copy, fresh off the press, and was as delighted with it as any author who sees their work in print. ”I have got my own darling Child from London,” she famously wrote in a letter, and the thrill of publication is there.  Sadly, that was where the thrill ended. Firstly because she’d sold the novel for a one-off fee to her publisher, and therefore never received royalties for it. Secondly, because the novel was published anonymously. Now, knowing JA, she may well have had some sly pleasure in overhearing conversations about her novel from people who had no idea she was the author, but I would imagine there must have been many occasions when she wanted to shout out her name from the rooftops ...

Return of the Native -- I'm back!

Image
There's something to be said about coming home. Of course, I haven't left my wonderful friends at Austen Authors behind. On the contrary. After almost a year together I couldn't do without them. You can still find me there, but I'll be travelling hither and thither, dipping a big toe here, a big toe there (and some little ones, too). Not much of a landscape I haven't chosen my toes metaphor randomly. In fact, toes are rather important to me at the moment, since I broke my leg and had it suspended in a cast right in front of me for a long time. This gave me time to contemplate the universe and the nature of toes. It was the first time I wondered why we have toenails (other than for something to paint), and why they didn't disappear some time during our evolution, since we hardly hang by our toenails any more. Nor do we use them to fight (like claws), to dig the ground for grub, or make holes to bury our cache of nuts. You'd think nature would have done...

The Darcy Cousins, my next Austen sequel

Image
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Waterstones (UK) and  Amazon.co.uk  already have the next novel in my Darcy Cousins series up on their website and available for pre-order! I have to say it's a thrill to see it there. I've been so busy with the launch of my US edition of The Other Mr Darcy that I'd put it on the back burner. But there it was, a clear reminder that my next book will be appearing in the very near future. It's also a timely reminder that I need to be working faster on my third sequel! Here's the blurb, hot off the press: What would you do if you had a brother like Mr Darcy? Overprotective, powerful, and full of pride? In this coming-of-age story, Georgiana joins forces with her lively American cousin, Miss Clarissa Darcy, to challenge the expectations forced upon her. But what starts out as mere playful mischief soon turns serious when Miss Anne de Bourgh suddenly vanishes and the consequences of Georgiana's rebellion become v...
